Gymnastics Events 2010 National Gymnastics Day Join us Saturday, August 21, 2010 from 10 a.m. - 12 noon at the Bishop Park gym for a day of fun and games! We invite kids ages 4 - 15 to challenge themselves through timed obstacle courses! How many sit-ups can you do in 30 seconds? Plus many more fun contests! We will have a friendly kids zone for the smaller children. This event is FREE and open to the public. Scholastic Book Fair - Here's to Our Heroes! Reading Saves the Day Join us September 13-17, 2010 as we host a Scholastic Book Fair and connect kids with the books they want to read. We invite children preschool through middle school to attend this wonderful and exciting event! We also welcome our homeschool community. The Book Fair will also raise money through donations to One for Books. This program provides an easy and effective way to unite the community and provide more books for kids. All funds collected through One for Books will be used to buy more books from the Book Fair. These books will be placed in the Resource Libraries located at Thomas N. Lay Park and East Athens Community Center of the Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department. Please visit their websites to learn more about the Resource Libraries. Book Fair Hours Monday and Wednesday - 10 a.m. - 12 noon; 3:00-6:00 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday - 10 a.m. - 12 noon; 3:00-7:00 p.m. Friday - 9 a.m. - 12 noon 2010 National Breast Cancer Awareness Month October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For the 10th year in a row, Athens Clarke Gymnastics Academy will host it's annual Cartwheels for Cancer September 27-October 7. During Cartwheels for Cancer, students perform as many cartwheels (or rolls) as they can in 60-seconds. They are then encouraged to seek donations from family and friends on behalf of the American Cancer Society. Last year we raised $374!!! Thank you to all of our students and their families and friends for their support! We are looking forward to another successful year! Download the Cartwheels for Cancer information letter and pledge form. 2010 Angel Food Tree 1 in 8 Americans struggle with hunger. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, 96 billion pounds of food are wasted each year in the United States. That is approximately 3,000 pounds per second. In February 2010, Feeding America, the nations largest charitable hunger relief organization showed an unprecedented number of Americans are in need of emergency food assistance. The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia provides emergency food assistance for an estimated 61,300 individuals annually. Approximately 40% of these individuals are under 18 years of age. Athens Clarke Gymnastics Academy for the second year will host a food drive November 1 - December 6 to help support the programs of the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. Food Drives are a simple and easy way to show our support for the community. Our 2010 Angel Food Tree will be placed in the downstairs lobby. The tree will be filled with paper ornaments that will have listed the Food Bank's most needed items. Students can help by picking a paper ornament from the tree and purchasing those items and bringing the items and placing them in barrels located in the lobby. Thank you in advance for your participation! 2010 St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Donation This year at our annual end of the year Tumble Bee Show and our Day with the Stars Gym Star meet we were able to raise over $1,609 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through the generous donations of all of our families and friends.
