Throne: The Concert VersionThe story, in music and narrative, is of James Hampton, a black janitor in Washington, D.C., with no formal training in art. He built "The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millennium General Assembly" over 14 years. Fiesta! a la Casa de LyndonThe kickoff of Big Read, designed to be a celebration of reading, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and in partnership with UGA Library, Georgia Museum of Art and ACC Regional Library. Features lunch, a mariachi band, and giveaways of the book, Bless Me, Ultima. Ages: All Date: Saturday, September 13 Time: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Location: The Lyndon House Arts Center (706) 613-3623 Fee: Free Full House Expo The public is invited to attend this family oriented event featuring live artist demonstrations in media and studio techniques such as; wheel throwing and handbuilding with clay, quilting, loom weaving, metalsmithing, porcelain painting, drawing, collage, painting with oil / acrylic / watercolor, woodcut & etching printmaking, wood turning and photography. Information on how to join many local arts organizations will also be available. Harvest FestivalThis year marks our 36th Anniversary of Harvest Festival! This annual celebration of old time crafts and rural life gives participants of all ages a way to learn about some of Georgia’s history first hand. There will be over fifty live demonstrations of quilting, woodworking, spinning, weaving, soap making, bee keeping, etc. as well as tours of the Ware Lyndon House. Enjoy old time music and dancing. While the event is appropriate for elementary school children and adults, everyone is welcome. The event, co sponsored by the Athens Community Council on Aging and the Lyndon House Arts Center, is truly a very fine intergenerational, educational tradition from the artists, crafts people, and volunteers of our community. Please call Keisha Ryals (706) 549-4850 to pre-register groups of 10 or more. Harvest Festival will take place indoors in case of rain.
